TEAM CS
The Northern California-Based Development Racing Team

2008 is our second season and we're recruiting members! We are one of the fastest growing teams in Northern California with 21 members as of February 2008.

We are based in the Marin and Sonoma County area but have members throughout the NCNCA region.

Our team mission is to encourage and support avid cyclists who want to race as part of a supportive team. Cycling is the largest and fastest growing competition in Northern California. Local races can almost always guarantee full fields in most categories.

There are few organized training options for most amateur competitors. It is difficult for the new racer to enter the sport safely, confidently and effectively. This is why Team CS has established our men's development road racing program. The objective of Team CS is to develop competitive skills, teach racing strategy and tactics and foster team camaraderie. We use the latest in web technology to train and communicate including blogs, web sites and both personalized and team-level coaching. We have structured training rides focusing on training specifics with the object of increasing each team member's fitness and helping him achieve his racing goals. In summary this is what Team CS offers:

  • Structured team training rides
  • Quarterly team training clinics/camps
  • Full racing schedule
  • Team blog, updated with race reports, training reports, tips, strategies and tactics
  • Quality team kit and apparel
  • Great deals and discounts on sponsor products and service
  • On-line self-coaching training programs or personalized training with Alan Atha of Cycling Systems, our founder and USAC Level 1 Coach

FAQ

Q: Who is on the team?

A: We currently have a good mix of Cat 3/4 and 5 racers. We have all ability and age levels working towards common racing goals.

Q: How much does it cost to join the team?

A: Team dues are $100 per year.

Q. How do I join?

A. Download the membership and liability waiver forms - fill them out, and mail them along with a check for $100 to the address indicated on the forms.

Q: What commitments do I have to make?

A: You will need to commit to doing at least five races, hopefully 'team designated' and be able to do the occasional weekend team ride depending on where you reside. We announce the structured tactical rides in advance so you can plan on attending. Then you do your specific personal training either by yourself or other teammates.

Q: I'm 52 years old and have been riding for 20 years. I want to learn how to race. Am I too old?

A; Absolutely not. If you're in reasonably good shape and have basic bike handling skills then you have a good base from which to start. You can take one of Coach Alan's Racing Skills Basics Clinics that are free to team members and costly to non-members. You will then have a hopefully seamless entry into the racing scene. It will take three seasons to develop you're skills. First year you learn basic racing skills, second year you apply these skills with the addition of tactics, third year you race to compete, unless your learning curve is sharp!

Q: I'm 25, a tri-athlete and want to specialize on cycling. Is this team for me?

A: Yes. The team rides, race calendar, training tools and clinics are designed specifically for the competitive racer.

Q: How much personal coaching will I get from Alan?

A: Your membership dues entitles you to all team related training rides, clinics and coaching activities. Our team blog will offer tips, tactics and techniques. If you want a more personalized approach you can purchase individualized power or heart rate coaching from Alan at a team-reduced rate.

Q: Who do I contact for more information?

A: Email Alan Atha or call 415.328.1373.
